As President-elect Trump’s inauguration nears, tickets to the festivities are apparently hard to come by for House Democrats.
Kim Fuller, a scheduler for Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.), said that it was “unfair” that Republicans were automatically given tickets to the parade and ball, while House Democrat offices needed to request tickets, yet were not given any guarantee that they would be able to attend.
According to an inaugural committee email obtained by Politico, Fuller’s liaison at the Presidential Inaugural Committee confirmed rumors that the committee had held a ticket distribution event at the Republican National Committee headquarters for all GOP offices to readily pick up tickets to the celebrations.
Fuller, who claimed to be aware of at least a dozen other Democratic offices experiencing the same issue, said in a note to her peers, “Not only is it unfair but it deepens the chasm between our parties and confirms that we will not be considered.”
Several Senate Democrat offices also said they had no communication from the inaugural committee about the tickets, said Politico.
However, two aides to senior House Democrats said that the issue hasn’t filtered to the top level of leadership and, therefore, it may just be a disorganized committee and nothing more.
“Either way, it’s not the way you do things,” Fuller said. “Things are worse now than they’ve ever been before.”
