Dems call for resignation of state senator who wished for Trump’s assassination

Top Missouri Democrats, including U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill and Stephen Webber, the Chairman of the Missouri Democratic Party, are calling for Missouri State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal’s resignation for posting this comment on her Facebook page: “I hope Trump is assassinated!”

Chappelle-Nadal actually blamed her incendiary words on President Trump’s response to the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia. She eventually removed the post, but not before it was captured in a screenshot and went viral on Twitter.

Republican Governor Eric Greitens sent out a storm of tweets urging the Missouri Senate to remove her from office if she refuses to resign. In his Twitter messages, the Governor stated that Chappelle-Nadal refused to resign twice.

Backing Governor Greitens, Missouri Lieutenant Governor Mike Parson issued a warning, according a report in St Louis Post-Dispatch, that if Chappelle-Nadal refuses to resign before the September session, he will seek her expulsion by his authority as the President of the Senate.

If  Chappelle-Nadal doesn’t resign voluntarily, the issue is expected to be put to the Senate floor as the first order of business when they reconvene in September. In Missouri, the Senate could remove Chappelle-Nadal with a vote of two-thirds.
