In another protest by Democrats, Rep. Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) asked a clerk to read the entire text of the GOP’s Obamacare repeal and replace plan out-loud, during a markup in the House’s Energy and Commerce Committee hearing on March 8.
The reading, which took about an hour, is an attempt by Democrats to prolong the markup of the American Health Care Act for as long as possible.
The Democrats wanted an analysis from the Congressional Budget Office, which will reveal the cost of the law and the amount of people that will lose coverage, before the markup.
The Democrats also state the new plan will not save money over the long term for the healthcare system. Another stall tactic planned is to present about 100 amendments that could drag out the hearing for days, according to ranking member Frank Pallone Jr. (D-N.J.)
