Deportations of illegal aliens living in U.S. up 37% under Trump

Under President Donald J. Trump, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are deportating more illegal aliens found living in the interior of the United States than in previous years. ICE reports an increase of 37 percent since Trump signed his Enhancing Public Safety in the Interior of the United States Executive Order, five days after his inauguration.

According to the report, deportations of illegal aliens living in the U.S. numbered more than 61,000 between January 20 and September 30, 2017. Those deportations did not include people caught at the border. Under former president Barack Hussein Obama, in Fiscal Year 2016, less than 45,000 illegal aliens  living in the interior of the country were deported.

Breitbart notes that the contrast indicates “how effective Trump’s pro-enforcement executive order has been throughout the first year of his presidency.”

Under Trump, this fiscal year ICE has deported almost 70,000 criminal illegal aliens from within the U.S., and nearly 60,000 criminal illegal aliens at the southern border.

In all, ICE has deported 226,119 illegal aliens, including those caught at the southern border and those arrested and deported from the interior of the U.S., in Fiscal Year 2017. In Fiscal Year 2016, deportations where slightly higher, numbered at more than 240,000.

ICE officials say the difference comes from a record decline in border-crossings under President Trump.

“The decrease in ICE’s overall removal numbers from FY2016 to FY2017 was primarily due to the decline in border apprehensions in 2017. Many fewer aliens were apprehended at the border in FY2017 than in FY2016—possibly reflecting an increased deterrent effect from ICE’s stronger interior enforcement efforts,” ICE notes in the report.

Also in Fiscal Year 2017, non-criminal illegal aliens living in interior of the U.S. were deported at a higher rate under Trump, with more deported in FY 2017 than during the two previous fiscal years combined.
