A prison surveillance video captures the moment a hardened criminal punches a female corrections officer in the face, knocking her to the ground.

On December 5th, Jimmie Smith, a 41 year old inmate at Cook County jail in Chicago, became enraged that a female corrections officer caught him in his cell making his own “talk show” with a laptop computer.

The disturbing footage captures the discovery on camera and the subsequent moment Jimmie Smith punched the female officer in the face.

At first the footage shows the female officer trying to speak with Smith, who is breaking up the laptop in an attempt to destroy it.

As the female officer approaches Smith to take the laptop away, Smith hauls off and punches her directly in the face. The other guards immediately rush in and subdue him.

According to the Cook County Sheriff’s office, Jimmie Smith, 41, has been locked up for more than seven years at the Illinois jail, awaiting disposition for numerous charges; “including attempted murder, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated criminal sexual assault and two counts of contraband in a penal institution.”

Smith was allowed to use the lap top so he could prepare for his defense of all these charges, but not allowed to keep it.

Jail officials are investigating how Smith not only obtained the laptop in his cell, but was also able to keep it.
The laptop also contained lewd pictures of Smith in various locations throughout the jail.

Smith has a court appearance on December 21st.
