Yesterday, instead of using my press pass to find a cushy spot to watch the inauguration, I decided to stand at the back of the Capital’s west lawn. Standing shoulder to shoulder with me, were veterans and everyday Americans of all ages. One man saw my press pass and asked, “Why are you back here with us?” I replied, “I prefer to be with people like myself who voted for Trump.”
Like millions of Americans, I worked hard to do my part to get Trump elected, and so from 11:30am to 12:30pm local time I was not a member of the media — instead, I was a member of the general public excited to celebrate a new page in making America great again.
But as much as I wanted to keep my cell phone in my pocket for the hour, there was a few moments when I had to rip it out because I knew the mainstream media would not highlight what was truly taking place. For example, the crowd’s reaction to Senator Chuck Schumer’s speech — I knew the media would never reveal the truth.
The media outlets were all tapped into the same audio feed used at the inauguration. Therefore, I knew the audio would be set to capture the sound of the podium microphone, and therefore the noise captured from the crowd would be very limited. In other words, if you watched from home, you got very little sense for crowd reactions.
When Senator Schumer took the podium and began ranting like an uptight Democrat, the thousands of people standing around me started to chant “USA, USA, USA.” They did this to muffle Schumer’s speech. Unfortunately, I captured just the last few seconds of the chant, but overall it lasted for more than a minute. When the USA chants stopped, another part of the crowd began “booing” the senator from New York — that I did capture in full.
Lat night, I had dinner with Harlan Hill who was doing TV spots all day and thus, he watched the inauguration in the same manner you did, via a TV. I asked if the sounds of the crowds were heard when Schumer spoke? He told me no. So, although you did not hear the “boos” and overpowering “USA” chants, make no mistake, Chuck Schumer and Barack Obama heard them loud and clear. Here is the video I captured.
