During the Comey testimony on Thursday, former FBI Director James Comey was grilled by Senator Marco Rubio. The former presidential candidate, who is not a big fan of the president, asked Comey a question that is impossible to ignore when considering how we’ve arrived to this place in time.
Rubio asked, “Did the president ask you [Comey] when the FBI would tell the American people that he [the president] was not under investigation by the FBI?” Comey responded, “Yes.” Rubio followed up by saying, “So basically, he asked you to do what you are doing here today.” Comey responded, “Yes.” Earlier in his testimony, Comey confirmed the president was not under investigation.
Rubio told Comey that he was baffled by how many “leaks” have been given to the press over the past few months, but that of all the leaks that were put out by the press, not once did a leak go out stating the president was not under investigation.
