1 – House to vote on $2,000 stimulus checks after Trump signs coronavirus, spending package
Fox News reports: The House of Representatives on Monday will vote on a bill to send $2,000 stimulus checks to Americans in lieu of the $600 checks included in the coronavirus stimulus and government funding package President Trump signed Sunday night.
The vote will come after Trump for the better part of a week railed against the size of the checks and the amount of foreign aid included in the massive combination of two legislative accords that lawmakers sent to his desk.
The bill the House will vote on Monday was first introduced by Rep. Richard Neal, D-Mass. It’s just a few pages long and simply changes the passages in the stimulus Trump just signed that say $600 to $2,000. That made its enactment dependent on Trump signing the stimulus and spending bill, which was in doubt until Sunday night.
Trump Sunday night as he signed the funding package said he plans to send requests for Congress to address his foreign aid objections separately, potentially indicating he is open to dual efforts on the size of the stimulus checks and cutting foreign aid funding. Notably, however, House Appropriations Committee Chair Rep. Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., said the House will not address Trump’s “rescissions” requests.
The legislation. to increase the stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000 would still have to pass the GOP-controlled Senate.
The House will pass a bill to give Americans $2,000 checks. Then I will move to pass it in the Senate.
No Democrats will object.
Will Senate Republicans?

2 – McConnell thanks Trump for signing coronavirus relief bill
The Hill reports: Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) late on Sunday thanked President Trump for signing an omnibus bill that funds the government and provides an additional round of coronavirus relief after earlier suggesting he would veto it.
“I thank the President for signing this relief into law, along with full-year government funding legislation that will continue the rebuilding and modernization of our Armed Forces that his Administration has championed,” McConnell said in a statement Sunday. “His leadership has prevented a government shutdown at a time when our nation could not have afforded one.”
The House is set to vote Monday on a separate bill to increase the payments to $2,000, a proposal that enjoys the support of Democratic leadership, but the expansion is unlikely to receive the necessary support of enough Republicans in the GOP-controlled Senate.
I applaud the President’s decision to get billions of dollars of crucial COVID-19 relief out the door and into the hands of American families. I am glad the American people will receive this much-needed assistance as our nation continues battling this pandemic. My full statement: pic.twitter.com/YSPYsPu2ct

DML: McConnell, where’s YOUR leadership? Why didn’t YOU give Trump a clean bill to sign without all the pork?
3 -Trump to hold another rally in Georgia prior to Senate runoff election
President Trump is headed back to Georgia next Monday to hold another rally, just one day prior to the Senate runoff elections on January 5.
Tump is seeking to help two Republican senators, Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, to retain their senate seats. The Jan. 5 election in Georgia will determine which Party controls the U.S. Senate.
The president announced in a Twitter post on Sunday, “On behalf of two GREAT Senators, @sendavidperdue & @KLoeffler, I will be going to Georgia on Monday night, January 4th., to have a big and wonderful RALLY. So important for our Country that they win!”

4 – Chinese Citizen Journalist Sentenced to 4 Years for Covid Reporting
The NY Times reports: A Chinese court on Monday sentenced a citizen journalist who documented the early days of the coronavirus outbreak to four years in prison, sending a stark warning to those challenging the government’s official narrative of the pandemic.
Zhang Zhan, the 37-year-old citizen journalist, was the first known person to face trial for chronicling China’s outbreak. Ms. Zhang, a former lawyer, had traveled to Wuhan from her home in Shanghai in February, at the height of China’s outbreak, to see the toll from the virus in the city where it first emerged. For several months she shared videos that showed crowded hospitals and residents worrying about their incomes.
In China, the news media is tightly controlled by the state. Some citizen journalists try to offer more independent reporting, which they post on the internet and social media platforms. But their work is often censored and they are routinely punished.
Ms. Zhang was fiercely critical of the government in her dispatches, asking why it had tried to silence whistle-blowers about the virus and questioning whether Wuhan’s lockdown had been enacted too harshly.

Zhang Zhan stood up for truth against the communist regime. Will her story be a preview of American journalism?

5 – Newly-Released Video Shows Explosion in Downtown Nashville
The Epoch Times reports: Newly released video shows the Christmas morning explosion in downtown Nashville. The footage, recorded by a police camera, captured the fiery blast, which collapsed one building and damaged some 40 others.
A recreational vehicle believed to be owned and operated by Anthony Quinn Warner blew up at 6:29 a.m. on Second Avenue in the heart of the city.
Warner, 63, parked the vehicle on the street before triggering a warning that an explosion was going to happen, authorities said during a press conference on Sunday.
