Today is July 23 and I am Dennis Michael Lynch. Below are my opinions on the stories grabbing headlines this morning. I hope you share this briefing as doing so will make you the smartest person in the room, in my opinion. 1. Portland mayor meets with the mob and is told to resign; security scuffles with protesters
A riot was declared in Portland just after midnight Thursday morning after Mayor Ted Wheeler’s tense visit with protesters– where he was booed, told to resign, given a list of demands and tear-gassed by federal agents.

His visit ended with his security detail engaging in a struggle with protesters late Wednesday night as they worked to get the mayor to safety, a report said.

Earlier, he moved with protesters to the fence outside of the federal courthouse where he stood at the front and was tear-gassed along with the crowd, according to New York Times correspondent Mike Baker.

As Wheeler left, a few protesters following him tried to push against his security team once he had entered a building. Others threw water bottles and other projectiles at the glass door, according to Baker.

DML: You can’t reason with these menaces, only Democrats fail to understand this.

2. House votes to remove Confederate statues from Capitol
The Associated Press reports: The House has approved a bill to remove statues of Gen. Robert E. Lee and other Confederate leaders from the U.S. Capitol, as a reckoning over racial injustice continues following the police killing of George Floyd, a Black man, in Minneapolis.

The House vote also would remove a bust of Chief Justice Roger B. Taney, the author of the 1857 Dred Scott decision that declared African Americans couldn’t be citizens.

The bill directs the Architect of the Capitol to identify and eventually remove from Statuary Hall at least 10 statues honoring Confederate officials, including Lee, the commanding general of the Confederate Army, and Jefferson Davis, the Confederate president. Three statues honoring white supremacists — including former U.S. Vice President John C. Calhoun of South Carolina — would be immediately removed.

DML: Geeze…. I wonder if that will erase history?  Nope.  Idiots.

3. China launches ambitious Mars mission
CBS News reports: A powerful Long March 5 rocket blasted off Thursday carrying a Chinese orbiter, lander and rover on a seven-month voyage to Mars, the second of three high-stakes missions to the red planet and one that, if successful, will put China on the front lines of interplanetary exploration.

China did not announce the launch date or time in advance, but a notice to mariners warned of an impending flight and sure enough, the Long March 5 roared to life and streaked away from the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center on Hainan Island southwest of Hong Kong at 12:41 a.m. EDT (12:41 p.m. local time).

China Xinhua News announced the launch a few minutes later on Twitter.

DML: This only means one thing, Trump will feel the need to launch a Jupiter mission.

4. Portland bans police from working with federal law enforcement, targeting journalists and legal observers during protests
Oregon Live reports: Portland will immediately ban all police bureau members from cooperating with federal law enforcement or intentionally using force on or arresting journalists and legal observers, under new policies the City Council passed Wednesday.

Commissioner Chloe Eudaly, who crafted and introduced the last-minute resolutions, Commissioner Amanda Fritz, Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty and Mayor Ted Wheeler unanimously voted to approve the new rules, calling them necessary as President Donald Trump has refused to remove federal officers from the city.

The ban on coordinating with federal officers cites “an unprecedented and unconstitutional abuse of power by the federal government” as reason to discipline any Portland police member if they provide, request or willingly receive operational support from any agency or employee representing the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Marshal Service, Federal Protective Service, Customs and Border Protection or any other federal service while they are occupying the city.

DML: Morons. There is no other word that comes to mind.

5. Coronavirus Updates: U.S. Nears 4 Million Cases as Multiple States Set Records
The NY Times reports: California recorded new highs in both coronavirus deaths and total number of cases on Wednesday, as troubling data emerged across the United States and more than 1,100 deaths were reported for the second consecutive day.

Missouri, North Dakota and West Virginia recorded their highest daily case numbers on Wednesday, while Alabama, Idaho and Texas reported daily death records, according to a New York Times database.

Nationwide, 69,707 new virus cases were reported on Wednesday. Total confirmed cases in the United States were expected to pass 4 million on Thursday.

DML: Do not ignore the warnings, be smart.

  1. How can the elected officials in Portland be so stupid, and how can they basically make it a crime for police to work with federal law enforcement officers….i have an idea, just burn the who city down and get it over with, then you won’t need a mayor or any other of the idiots running that city.

  2. Seeing this happen in the United States, makes me sick. This is no longer the country I grew up in. It looks more like Iraq or Afghanistan. This is WAR and I never thought I’d see that in this country. I do believe it’s time to lock and load. I’d love to start my own militia. They’re turning our cities and states into something that looks like a war torn third world country and it won’t end until we start shooting back to let them know that we aren’t going to stand for it anymore and we mean business.

This is no longer about George Floyd. I just heard one young punk rioter say that they want to destroy or tear down the US. Most of the rioters are young punk kids in their 20’s or very early 30’s. If they want to fight, round them up and send them to a middle eastern country where they can burn all the buildings they can get away with burning, spray paint graffiti on statues, buildings and burn flags and let them see what it’s like when somebody is actually FIGHTING BACK.

  3. Would there be enough educated, reasonable Portlanders to create a quasi City Council to communicate with Trump, stand up against Wheeler and the awful radical Council Portland now has, and support the police and Portland’s honest citizens, and their property?
