DML Op-Ed: Priebus thrown under the bus. PRESIDENT TRUMP, What the hell were you thinking meeting with Ruddy?

Yesterday, I received a call from an old friend who used to work with me in NYC.  The friend said, “DML, I cannot believe the president met with Chris Ruddy for drinks, what is he thinking?”

I responded: “I don’t know.”

My friend replied: “And this is why his White House has massive leaks just 3 weeks into his presidency. Trump will regret this one, big time. ”

I concluded: “I wonder if Trump knows about the Podesta emails?”

Chris Ruddy is the CEO of Newsmax.   FULL DISCLOSURE:  Ruddy removed me from air during a live broadcast in August 2016.  At the time, I was the host of the most successful show in the network’s history.

On Friday night, it turns out Ruddy just so happened to be at Mar-a-largo country club when the president was there with the Prime Minister of Japan.

Later that night, Ruddy blasted out a tweet claiming that after the president finished dinner with Prime Minister Abe, he asked Ruddy to join him for a drink.

Ruddy’s tweet claims the president had a Diet Coke while he enjoyed a scotch.  Allegedly, they spoke for 30 minutes about the media, Haberman, NY Times, ‘fake news’, Nordstrom’s, China, Putin, nukes, and more.

In a second tweet, Ruddy lets us know that he thinks the president has a “good grip on things.”  Then Ruddy went on to promote his upcoming Sunday appearance on CNN — also known as the network at war with Trump.

As promoted, Ruddy appeared on CNN today to “reveal” what he discussed with Trump.

The first question posed to Ruddy from CNN, “Why does the president call CNN fake news?”   Ruddy responded,  “You just spent the past half hour on this show calling him a pathological liar and then beyond that saying he is mentally crazy and unstable, are you guys really connected to reality?”

Although Ruddy brings up a great point about CNN, I have to question President Trump’s decision making when selecting the people with whom he shares a drink.

There are some people who can be trusted, and there are some people who are not to be trusted.  That said, I’ve been fighting for Trump for years.  I have never stopped — not for a single  day.  And that comes despite resistance from people, such as… well… (see video).

1) Ruddy constantly touts and NewsmaxTV as a conservative outlet for news and information but there was rarely, if ever, any information about the WikiLeaks emails during the campaign.

2) In 1997, Ruddy wrote a book about the suspicious death of Vince Foster, entitled:  “The Strange Death of Vincent Foster: An Investigation“.  Foster was a member of the Clinton administration who died from a gunshot wound. His death was classified a suicide, but Ruddy didn’t buy it.  He, like many people, felt there was a cover up by the Clinton administration.  In other words, many people believed Foster was murdered, and Ruddy went out of his way to prove it.

3) Despite his book and numerous speeches about the potential corruption within the Clinton administration, Ruddy would eventually become chummy with the Clintons.  So chummy, that he donated a reported $1,000,000 to the Clinton Foundation.

Screen Shot 2017-02-12 at 6.42.53 PM4) During the 2016 election, WikiLeaks put out a series of hacked emails from the account of the Clinton campaign chairman, John Podesta.   Because the media was fixed on emails that exposed Hillary Clinton, they overlooked emails sent to Podesta from Ruddy.

Here are some:

Today I posted my recent Newsmax column “Embrace Obama’s Border Security Bill.” I make the case it’s not only good for the country, but good for the GOP.

FYI- CNN just released comScore’s latest multiplatform ratings for July 2015 – which includes desktop and mobile devices. was the third most-viewed site for political readers in the nation, just behind CNN and Politico.

Thank you again for taking the time out to meet me this week.

I had a meeting with Mario Diaz Balart today who tells me the re whipping is not going well in terms of votes. He says that they really have been hurt by the Cantor loss. He still has some additional votes to review. He Is interested in proceeding. We have agreed to cohost a meeting of conservative leaders likely the week of July 7 in DC for him to lay out his concepts. Hopefully we can gauge reaction after that meeting as well. I will let you know what I am up to. If you have any suggestions for me please feel free to share them.

Thank you. Best, Chris

**This email sparked an entire conversation between the two about a follow up meeting. Then Podesta forwarded the information to one of President Obama’s top advisors — marking it as top priority and requiring a meeting.

The Daily Caller dug into Ruddy’s connection to the Clinton Foundation and Podesta.  In one article published in 2016, the DC reveals that Ruddy was involved in a pay for play deal with the Clintons.

In another article by the Daily Caller, they point out that Ruddy was allegedly working with Podesta on immigration reform.  Podesta is for open borders.

Today, Ruddy appeared on CNN to discuss his conversation with President Trump.  During the 7 minute interview, Ruddy rips into Trump’s chief of staff, Reince Priebus.

The “conservative” CEO of Newsmax goes on to blame Priebus for not having controls in place and claims he does not know how Washington DC works. “I think there is a lot of weakness coming out of the chief of staff,” said Ruddy.

As if that wasn’t enough damage, the Washington Post claims they too spoke with Ruddy.  They quote Ruddy as saying, “A lot of people have been saying, ‘Look, Donald has some problems,’ and I think he realizes that he’s got to make some changes going forward.”

Ruddy painted an even dimmer picture: “It’s my view that Reince is the problem. I think on paper Reince looked good as the chief of staff — and Donald trusted him — but it’s pretty clear the guy is in way over his head. He’s not knowledgeable of how federal agencies work, how the communications operations work. He botched this whole immigration rollout. This should’ve been a win for Donald, not two or three weeks of negative publicity.”  He concluded, Trump “is not getting the backup he needs” from Priebus.

What sort of friend does this?  What sort of conservative media CEO sits down for drinks with the president and then spews negative comments about Trump’s top guy to liberal media outlets that feed off anti-Trump sound bites?

When did Chris Ruddy become qualified to measure success in the White House?

At a time when cable news ratings are exploding and online video is racing to the moon, NewsmaxTV has lost nearly all of its main distribution.  Go to the Newsmax YouTube channel and you’ll find mostly videos with just a few hundred plays.

This is speculation on my part, but it appears the core business is relying on the sale of “stuff.”  Sign up for Newsmax emails and you’ll see the offers flow in for Alzheimer’s pills, “buy gold” promotions, and discounts on products to stimulate your memory and shrink your belt size.   How does any of this translate into Ruddy knowing anything about who needs to stay, and who needs to go, in an administration that is 3 weeks young?

The GOP is a back-stabbing party that did everything they could to derail Trump.  Priebus, is one of a few members of the GOP who stuck with Trump through thick and thin.   I hope he can get past this blast of bloviating sound bites.

I will end on this, if the president wants “talk” about leaks in his White House to stop; if he wants “discussions” about him being crazy to stop, well then he better be more selective about who he sits with for drinks.

ADDED NOTE: By meeting with the likes of Ruddy, the president puts unneeded pressure on a White House already feeling the media pinch.  Even if Trump and Ruddy did not speak about Priebus, by means of meeting with Ruddy he puts him in a power position.  Here is a guy who has a history of dancing with the Democrats and spewing information to Podesta.  The media will take his comments and run with it — like they did here.  This places Trump and his team in harms way, in my opinion.  The comments made by Ruddy about Priebus supports my statement.
