A few years ago, I had a vision to start a website that offered unbiased news reports. Sprinkled throughout the website would be my opinions. Being conservative, I knew we’d be considered a right-leaning website, but I wasn’t concerned because truth is I will never allow my politics to interfere with honest reporting.
After a few months, the website DMLDAILY.com stopped operating because I decided to explore a run for office. As a result, the site remained dormant for years.
Then last year, in late March, I decided to give it another shot. I was hosting a TV show on Newsmax at the time, and I saw how they were operating their website. Being very unimpressed, I knew I could do a far better job. So, I reached out to my dear friend Anneta from Kansas, and my son who was a college student and asked if they’d be interested in helping me write a few articles. By June of 2016 we were a full time website posting no less than two dozen stories, seven days per week.
One of our vendors who helped with ad placements, said he had never seen a website take off so quickly and knew we’d be one of the biggest news sites in the years to come.
On June 30, 2017, we completed what I consider to be our first full year in operation. When comparing June 2016 to June 2017, the DML website experienced a 300% increase in monthly page views. Last month, we recorded 12M page views total. It was our best month this year, and our second best month since opening the website (best month was Nov. 2016).
What’s most amazing about that number is our retention rate. Unlike most websites which are lucky to record a 50% retention rate, our repeat visitor rate is 81%. That is unheard of in the news business.
I believe people keep coming back because we are dedicated to the truth. In addition, we are nimble, and so we often get to a story quicker than the big outlets. I am also willing to say we are highly reliable and consistent. Although, we’ve changed gears a few times with our online TV programming (video), our core business of reporting the news is more consistent than any business we know of. For the past year, we have never missed a single day, including Christmas Day. For 365 days straight we have reported the news starting at 7am EDT and ending at midnight.
Keep in mind we accomplish what we do with just two assignment editors (me being one of them), one website programmer, and 7 amazingly dedicated writers, most of whom work part time.
Another reason fueling our growth is a faithful readership who returns each day. You folks are our greatest asset when you share our stories and reports. I believe you do this because you know we’ll never make you look silly.
With the advent of “fake news”, DML has never been nabbed for posting false stories or conspiracies. Although we don’t put much stock in liberal-university studies, it’s hard to ignore that in a recent evaluation of conservative websites, DML was one of a handful of sites that did not receive a poor rating when it comes to posting credible sources and reports.
My team knows I will not compromise our dedication to delivering the truth even when it ruffles feathers, and I truly love them for how hard they work. In addition, my readers may not always agree with my opinion pieces or positions expressed during the Walk & Talks, but that’s OK because they know I will never lie to them about how I feel. Unlike some people who I have engaged with over this year, I will not sell my soul or compromise my name for bright lights and a seat at the “important people table.” To me, the important people are my readers — and that’s a position I will never change. At DML, we always say what we mean and we always mean what we say. That’s our guiding principle — bottom line, case closed.
Although we are far from perfect and know we must continue to improve, we promise to work hard each day in refining our delivery. On most days we publish as many as 50 articles per day. Our goal is to reach 100 per day by the end of the year. We won’t miss that goal.
On behalf of my wonderful team, I thank our readers for the continued support! And please know that although I’ve been less visible these past two weeks, there is no stopping our growth. I hope to resume video production in August.
We thank you so much for helping us grow!
