A new report released by the Justice Department’s Executive Office for Immigration Review on Tuesday reveals a tremendous increase in deportation orders during the first six months of the Trump administration.
The new statistics on deportations cover the period from February 1, 2017, through July 31, 2017, and confirm an increase of 30.9 percent over the same time period last year for total orders of removal and voluntary departures combined.
A total of 57,069 illegal aliens reportedly left the U.S. during the past six months, compared to 43,595 who were removed or voluntarily left during the same period in 2016.
To ramp up deportations, the Trump administration took over one hundred existing immigration judges and sent them to Homeland Security detention facilities across the country, resulting in illegal aliens being ordered removed in over 90 percent of the cases.
Additionally, the report notes that the Justice Department has hired an additional 54 new immigration judges since President Trump took office, and continues to hire more each month, in order to handle the backload of immigration cases.
“In addition to carrying out the President’s Executive Order, the Justice Department is also reviewing internal practices, procedures, and technology in order to identify ways in which it can further enhance Immigration Judges’ productivity without compromising due process,” the report stated.
Total deportation statistics for the period Feb. 1, 2017 – July 31, 2017, were reported as follows:
- Total Orders of Removal : 49,983
- Up 27.8 percent over the same time period in 2016 (39,113)
- Total Orders of Removal and Voluntary Departures : 57,069
- Up 30.9 percent over the same time period in 2016 (43,595)
- Total Final Decisions : 73,127
- Up 14.5 percent over the same time period in 2016 (63,850)
Not included in this report, however, are the massive numbers of illegal aliens who are self-deporting to Canada since President Trump took office – the majority of which are Haitians who came to the United States through Mexico.
Now, fearful of President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration, they are pouring across the northern border and seeking asylum in Canada. According to a recent report, as many as 150 illegal aliens per day are streaming across the Canadian border.
