Since his father took office in January and handed over the reins to the family business to his oldest sons, Donald Trump Jr. has been extremely busy.
In fact, at a GOP fundraiser in Dallas on Saturday, Trump Jr. claimed, “I basically have zero contact with him at this point.”
The younger Trump, a key player in the presidential campaign as well as the transition to office, said that after his father was elected, he thought he could return to his regular, politically-free life. “I thought I was out of politics after Election Day and [would] get back to my regular life and my family,” Trump Jr. said. “But I couldn’t.”
Recently, he attended a fundraiser hosted by Dallas millionaire Doug Deason, who also served as a trustee on Trump’s finance team.
He said that while he still enjoys business deals, he’s getting a kick out of the political scene, stating, “When you’re the sort of guy out there every day, 24-7, fighting in this thing — it’s like a great fight.” His appearance at the event marked the first time Trump Jr. returned to the political spotlight since his father’s inauguration.

Trump Jr. praised Texas and threw shade on his home state of New York, which overwhelmingly voted for Hillary Clinton.
“You guys get it,” he told the Texans. “You understand the freedoms … so many of which we’ve lost where I come from in the ‘peoples’ republic of New York’ … I can say that and mean it because I see it.”
He also commented on the fact that his father is finally getting things done in Washington. “I’m watching more take place in two months than I saw in two terms before,” he said.
Texas senator Ted Cruz also spoke at the fundraiser, which was the first time he would stand on stage with a member of the Trump family since the GOP contentious primaries.
