A tragic scene unfolded at a highway overpass in Virginia this weekend when a 12-year-old boy attempting suicide ended up taking the life of another.
Marisa Harris, 22, was driving her SUV along the highway when the boy landed on top of her windshield after jumping from the overpass.
The incident led to Harris’ death at the scene, and the boy is being treated for critical injuries at a local hospital.
Harris’ boyfriend, who was sitting in the SUV’s passenger seat, steered the car to the side of the road, police added. Harris died at the scene.
Harris’ mother told News4 Harris was a graduate student at Marymount University in Arlington, Virginia, studying clinical counseling. She had recently taken a trip to Budapest as part of a college course.
Her mother said if given the chance, Harris could have helped the boy who had jumped.
Police said they are investigating the incident as an attempted suicide.
