Three family members were seriously injured after a speeding car ran them over on a pedestrian crosswalk.
On July 5th in Oakland, California, 18-year-old Carla Mendoza, her 20-year-old cousin Jackie Velasquez, and her five-year-old brother Johnathan, were on their way home from buying ice cream at a nearby supermarket when tragedy struck.
Surveillance footage captured the speeding four-door sedan mowing down the three family members, sending two of them airborne. Five-year-old Johnathan was dragged underneath the car. Mendoza will need multiple surgeries for a full recovery. She suffered a broken pelvis, broken leg, torn knee ligaments, and a number of bruises and cuts.
Johnathan suffered a spinal chord injury. He was dragged under the car for a few feet after the horrific crash, and doctors say they are unsure if he ever will be able to walk again.
The reckless driver stayed at the scene, but there is no word as to whether criminal charges will be filed.
