Today, Ecuador’s president elections are underway, and as a byproduct of voting for their new president, Ecuadorians also hold the fate of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange in the manner of their ballots.
Currently residing in Ecuador’s London embassy, Assange has been promised a stay in his arrangements if Lenin Moreno is voted into office. Moreno, a socialist, currently leads all the opinion polls. Nevertheless, his conservative counterparts Guillermo Lasso and Cynthia Viteri have both vowed to cancel Assange’s current arrangement.
The Ecuadorian government objected against United States wishes by having granted Assange safe stay. The Australian currently faces rape charges in Sweden and is wanted by the U.S. for his website’s leaking of confidential information.
