The effects of synthetic marijuana (video)

New video released Friday by the Counties Manukau Police in New Zealand shows how detrimental smoking synthetic marijuana can be to the human body.

The short clip highlights an incident that happened earlier this year in the city of Auckland. It exposes a user vomiting and falling over after consuming the potentially deadly drug.

Detective Inspector Gary Lendrum is especially concerned about the synthetic drug usage that is sweeping the streets of New Zealand communities. Lendrum said, “Tests conducted of the synthetic cannabis itself have shown that it can be very dangerous, with the possibility that some products can also be laced with other unknown chemicals.”

The area’s police department and the chief coroner have issued a warning following at least seven Auckland deaths in July that are supposedly linked to the use of the drug, officials said.

The street names for synthetic pot are “K2” or “Spice.” The drug has proven to be a hazard the world over, including last year on the streets of the Big Apple, where dozens of people overdosed in Bedford-Stuyvesant, New York.
