In light of the Orlando terror attack, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump has continued to highlight the radical Islamic terror issue, and said, as president, he would temporarily ban immigration from countries with terrorist connections.
His words are being slammed as “anti-Muslim rhetoric” by Obama. Trump has condemned Obama for refusing to use the words “radical Islamic terror” and said by refusing to acknowledge such, he “continues to prioritize our enemy over Americans.”
Obama said use of the term is a political distraction.
Hillary Clinton accused Trump of “conspiracy theories” and “pathological self-congratulations”.
House Speaker Paul Ryan has sided with Obama as well. “I do not think a Muslim ban is in our country’s interest,” Ryan told reporters. “I do not think it is reflective of our principles, not just as a party but as a country.”
Senator Lindsey Graham said he had “run out of adjectives” for Trump. “I don’t think he has the judgment or the temperament, the experience to deal with what we are facing,” said Graham.
Trump wrote in an email to the Associated Press: “President Obama claims to know our enemy, and yet he continues to prioritize our enemy over our allies and, for that matter, the American people.”
While the establishment elite are appalled at Trump tough talk, a majority of the voters agree with him. In a recent poll, 64 percent of Republican voters said they approve of Trump’s call for a temporary ban from Muslim countries. 45 percent of independents agreed with him, and 26 percent of Democrats as well.
