Hillary Clinton, President Trump’s former Democrat rival who he defeated in the 2016 presidential election, has responded on Twitter after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced she had instructed the Judiciary Committee to move forward with articles of impeachment against the president.
“In the United States of America, no one is above the law,” Clinton wrote in a Twitter post, as she shared a video clip of Pelosi’s announcement.
Clinton’s own husband, former president Bill Clinton, was also impeached by the House on October 8, 1998, for “high crimes and misdemeanors.” The specific charges against Clinton were lying under oath and obstruction of justice, related to sexual harassment charges, along with an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
Pelosi claimed in her announcement that the facts are now “uncontested” that President Trump “abused his power for his own personal political benefit at the expense of our national security” by threatening to withhold aid from Ukraine in exchange for an investigation of Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.
