On Wednesday, President Donald J. Trump commented on reports that leaders at the U.N. had laughed at him during his speech.
During his opening address at the U.N. General Assembly Tuesday, Trump said, “In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than any administration in the history of our country.”
Audience members reacted with laughter. Trump smiled and responded: “I didn’t expect that reaction, but that’s OK.”
Asked about the incident Wednesday during a news conference in New York, Trump said, “They weren’t laughing at me. They were laughing with me. We had fun.”
Trump described the initial reaction from leaders as “a little rustle,” and he said the news reports that he was being laughed at was “fake news.”
“People had a good time with me. We were doing it together,” the president said. “They respect what I’ve done.”
