Judge Andrew Napolitano during an interview on Fox News Thursday morning said according to federal law the U.S. government may gather statistical information about gun owners for as long as they destroy any personally identifiable information, such as names, date of birth, and addresses.
According to Napolitano, the Obama administration is not abiding by the federal law. He cited a recent report from the U.S. Government Accountability Office which claims the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives did not always comply with the rules. In other words, the government is not destroying the information.
“It’s reprehensible, it violates federal law, it violates a Supreme Court opinion, it violates our natural right to self-defense, which is protected by the Second Amendment,” he said.
