Explosion at Army ammo plant kills one

An explosion occured at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant Tuesday afternoon, in Independence, Missouri, just outside Kansas City.

One person was reportedly killed, and at least 3 were injured.   The explosion occured in one of the outbuildings at the facility, and blew a hole in the side of the building.

The plant contains over 400 buildings on about 4,000 acres of land, and is the largest small arms manufacturing plant in the world.  It employees over 1,600 people, and is the 5th largest employer in the Kansas City area, according to local KMBC 9 News.

No news is currently available about what caused the explosion.
