Eyewitness Survivor Identifies Football Star Aaron Hernandez as Murderer in 2012 Shooting

At a pre-trial hearing Tuesday, a male eyewitness who was with the two men killed allegedly by Aaron Hernandez in Boston in 2012 gave testimony at the Suffolk Superior Court and identified Hernandez as the gunman in the shooting. Hernandez was present at the hearing as lawyers filed motions for his upcoming double murder trial.

In July 2012, the former New England Patriots football player was charged with the fatal shooting of two individuals he scuffled with at a night club. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty in the deaths of Safiro Furtado and Daniel de Abreu.

Two other men who were in the car with Furtado and de Abreau when they were killed, Aquilino Freire and Raychides Sanches, were called in to testify in the motion hearing. Sanches went first, confirming the identity of the gunman as Hernandez. Sanches claims that he, Freire, and the two victims were in a car when another car pulled up next to them and began firing bullets.

“We was in panic… crying… it was crazy,” said Sanches, who also described there being “blood everywhere.” During his testimony, an unidentified woman in the audience began crying. Freire is expected to testify on Wednesday.
