The unsolved murder of a Democratic National Committee (DNC) staffer is garnering renewed attention since his family launched a crowdfunding page to raise money to help solve the case.

Seth Rich was shot multiple times last July while walking during the early morning hours in his northwest Washington, D.C. neighborhood.

The GoFundMe page was posted over the weekend with the goal of raising of $200,000. As of Wednesday morning, approximately $5,300 had been raised for the effort from 111 donors.

Seth Rich’s brother, Aaron Rich described the former DNC staffer as an “amazing person who only cared about trying to help others and make the world better.”

“He was extremely passionate about his civic duty and making sure everyone had a chance to be heard,” Aaron Rich wrote on the fundraising page.

“My brother made a difference every single day, and I know that now more than ever because of the emotional support we have received from across the country and around the world.”

Aaron Rich said that Seth’s murder remains a mystery and the family has been unable to get answers about his death.

“My family isn’t wealthy and because we lack the funds or resources to make sure we are doing what we can to aid Washington’s police department, we’ve had to rely on help,” Aaron Rich wrote.

“Experience has taught us that we need help, and we need help that is free from any ulterior motives or with any strings attached. That’s why, with a heavy heart, I have started this fund.”

The money will be invested in raising awareness about the murder, hiring investigative, forensic and analytical services, and maintaining and possibly increasing “the reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.”

Aaron Rich stated that every few weeks, “another conspiracy theory surfaces, another promise of credible information, and another lack of evidence to support the crazy claims made.”

In September, Jack Burkman, a Republican lobbyist with Burkman & Associates offered a $100,000 reward for information relating to the death of Seth Rich.

WikiLeaks also offered a $20,000 reward for information about the case.

In November, Seth Rich’s parents implored D.C. residents to help authorities identify the killer.

“We need the public’s help, we need everybody’s help, and I know Seth knew the right thing. If everybody helps us, we will find these murderers and we will make that neighborhood a lot safer,” Seth’s mother, Mary Ann Rich said during a news conference in Washington.
