Pro wrestler Tamina, Snuka’s daughter, posted a photo of her hand grasping her father’s on Instagram. The caption read “I LOVE YOU DAD.”
Snuka’s last moments were spent with his son-in-law and his family near Pompano Beach, Florida. The family informed attorney Robert Kirwan II that Snuka has passed away shortly after 1 p.m. on Sunday.
Twelve days prior to his death, Snuka was dismissed by a Pennsylvania judge in a murder case against him.
The murder case was dismissed by Lehigh County Judge Kelly Banach on the defense that he had six months to live in hospice care with dementia. The decision was made on January 3.
The murder charge was implemented in 2015 under third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend, Nancy Argentino. Her body was found in 1983 in their hotel room in Whitehall Township, Pa.
Snuka claimed she had died from a fall, but prosecutors maintained she was beaten to death.
The judge ruled last summer that Snuka was not able to stand trial due to his trauma sustained in the ring causing dementia. Prosecutors countered the decision with brain scans showing normal signs of aging, while suggesting that he was feigning symptoms.
Kirwan revealed that Snuka died “due to complications from his ongoing medical problems”, but refused to further clarify. He added that he believes his client’s name will soon be cleared.
