Donald Trump Jr. has been slammed by the liberal media over his June 2016 meeting with a Russian lawyer, but in an ironic twist of events, one prominent, hard-lined Democrat who has taken Trump Jr.’s side is now being given the cold shoulder by The New York Times.
Alan Dershowitz, a well-known liberal lawyer who is a staunch Hillary Clinton supporter, appeared as a guest on Fox News Saturday evening with Judge Jeanine Pirro and said he sees no evidence that Trump Jr. committed any crime in meeting with the Russian lawyer.
Monday, Dershowitz spoke with the Washington Examiner by phone and said he had tried to submit an opinion editorial to The New York Times but received no response. His attempts to contact both the opinion page editor and the deputy editor were met with silence.
Dershowitz wanted to respond to an article in the Times which had stated President Trump could be charged with criminal conduct over the firing of former FBI Director James Comey. His opinion editorial presented an opposing view, declaring that the president was not attempting to obstruct justice by firing Comey.
Dershowitz told the Washington Examiner, “I said that I thought the readers of The New York Times were entitled to hear or read the other side of the issue, whether there were crimes committed. And I really do think The New York Times does not want its readers to hear an alternative point of view on the issue of whether or not Trump administration is committing crimes.”
Dershowitz admitted that, despite the fact that other media outlets have been willing to publish op-eds from both sides, The New York Times “has been pretty one-sided.” He told the Washington Examiner he wants to share his views in the liberal media, but it is “not the narrative they’re pushing.”
Regarding Trump Jr.’s meeting with the Russian lawyer, Dershowitz had written in an editorial on Fox News’ website that “it is not currently a crime” if an American political campaign member speaks with a foreign government, and he told Pirro, “There’s really no difference on the First Amendment between a campaigner using information obtained from somebody who obtained it illegally and the newspaper doing it.”
Now, Dershowitz is being embraced by many conservative news outlets and shunned by the liberal media.
“I don’t have the right point of view,” he admitted.
