A Sedalia, Colorado man called 911 Saturday night to report that he had just shot an intruder at his home. It turned out he had shot dead his own son.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s office received the call about 10:15 pm from Frank Leo Huner Jr., notifying them he had shot the intruder. A few moments later, while he was still on the phone with officials, Huner, 59, reportedly realized the intruder was his own adult son.
The dispatcher reported during the call, “RP [Reporting party] is saying he shot someone who came into his house. Now [he’s] saying it’s his son, and he’s dead.”
His son, Nick Huner, had reportedly been shot “about six times.”
Huner was arrested and charged with second degree murder, and the matter is still under investigation.
Local ABC station KRDO NewsChannel 13 reported the incident on their Facebook page, where some readers commenting on the situation stated they knew Huner.
One person commented, “This is an estranged adult son who does not live in his house. Leo is a good man and I am sure heartbroken over this.”
Another stated, “I’ve known Leo for 16 years…didn’t know he shot him 6 times! That’s excessive when you don’t know who you are shooting. But I know Leo and he is in his own hell right now.”
