New York City police officers made a long-awaited arrest Saturday night in the brutal murder of Queens, NY jogger Karina Vetrano.  The young woman was raped and strangled in August.

The suspect is a Brooklyn man who was linked to the victim through DNA recovered from her finger nails.

After learning of the arrest, the victim’s father — a retired NYC fireman — exited his home Sunday carrying a large wooden club.

The New York Post reports that Phil Vetrano left his home with a face full of determination and club in hand. However, he wouldn’t make a comment.  He simply nodded to The Post reporter as he walked past with the wooden club.

The Post alleges he tossed the club into a red Kia Soul before driving off with a male passenger around 1 p.m.

The man arrested is Chanel Lewis, 20.  He is being held at the 107th Precinct in Flushing, Queens, pending his transfer to court for arraignment.

It was unclear where Vetrano went with the club, but it was not to the police precinct.
