Late Monday night the New York Times reported that the FBI’s investigation into the potential links between Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Russia turned up nothing.
“Law enforcement officials say that none of the investigations so far have found any conclusive or direct link between Mr. Trump and the Russian government,” reported the NYT.
The article confirmed reports that the FBI was trying to find evidence that would link the Russian government to influencing the U.S. presidential campaign, but were unsuccessful in finding anything incriminating.
FBI agents looked into possible financial connections that allegedly existed between Trump staffers and Russia. Under specific scrutiny was Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort who one worked for a pro-Putin Ukranian politicial party.
Despite the allegations the NYT wrote “No evidence has emerged that would link [Trump] or anyone else in his business or political circle directly to Russia’s election operations.”
The FBI even followed a lead that was alleged to show communication between one of Donald Trump’s companies and Russia’s Alfa Bank, which turned up nothing.
The Trump Campaign as well as Alfa Bank both denied that there was any communication between them.
