FBI Director Comey Blames Russia for Interfering with U.S. Election

FBI Director James Comey and the Director of National Intelligence, James Clapper Jr. are now supporting the CIA’s assessment of the Russians intervening with the 2016 presidential election in an effort to help Donald Trump win.

It was during a closed-door briefing on Capitol Hill that took place a couple of weeks ago that CIA briefers claimed it was “quite clear” from their investigation that the Russians were not only determined to make sure Trump was elected, but to undermine confidence in the electoral process, as reported by Jason Aldag at The Washington Post.

The Washington Post reported that CIA Director John Brennan made this statement:

“Earlier this week, I met separately with (Director) FBI James Comey and DNI Jim Clapper, and there is strong consensus among us on the scope, nature, and intent of Russian interference in our presidential election.”

As far as what is to come:

“The three of us also agree that our organizations, along with others, need to focus on completing the thorough review of this issue that has been directed by President Obama and which is being led by the DNI,” Brennan’s message read.

President Obama stated in his final press conference held on Friday afternoon that he plans to retaliate against Russia for undermining the U.S. elections process by taking action “at a time and place of our own choosing,” according to a report from USA Today.

Meanwhile, President-Elect Donald Trump continues to deny the CIA’s purported allegations that Russia had any influence on his victorious win last month. He had this to say during an interview with Fox News Sunday, “I think it’s ridiculous. I think it’s just another excuse. I don’t believe it . . . No, I don’t believe it at all.”
