According to Open the Books, the federal government is a very generous employer, including six figure bonuses and two months of vacation after only three years of employment.

Using the government’s data to track federal spending, Open the Books has revealed their findings in a new book, titled, “Mapping The Swamp.”  The government watchdog group looked at the 2 million person workforce employed by the federal government, and found that the outsized paychecks paid for by U.S. taxpayers include at least one salary higher than President Donald J. Trump’s, as well as other incredible facts.

On Thursday, DML News reported that the cost of funding the federal workforce is $1.1-million per minute, or more than $136 billion a year, as exposed by Open the Books.

In a recent tweet (see below), Open the Books revealed that one in five “disclosed federal employees make six-figure incomes,” while 30,000 federal employees earn more that the 50 state governors.

Other revelations include the fact that those that work in the nation’s capital collect $20.6 billion of the $136 billion poured into federal paychecks, recipients in D.C. raking in the most federal money in one city.

Open the Books also noted “an explosion in big paychecks,” according to the Washington Examiner. Federal employees making $200,000 a year have gone up by 165 percent over the last 10-years, while 406,960 federal employees earn $100,000 or more.

Open the Books has announced that according to their findings, the federal “minimum wage” appears to be $100,000 for its employees. That’s in addition to a generous benefits package, which includes 10 holidays off, 13 sick days and 20 vacation days for the average employee. What’s more, workers who have worked three years or more can take over eight weeks off, and one lucky human resources manager at Presidio Trust in San Francisco received a bonus of $141,525.

Another revelation was that one employee earns more than the president: a heart surgeon at the Department of Veterans Affairs. The good doctor makes an annual salary of $403,849, while the president’s annual salary equals $400,000, a difference of $3,849.
