Following a claim of government misconduct, a federal judge has ordered the State Department to release 30 previously unseen Hillary Clinton emails.
Judicial Watch, a conservative action group, successfully reversed the State Department’s assertion for secrecy.
Citing “deliberative process” and “attorney-client and attorney work product” privileges, the State Department had previously blacked out the 30 Clinton email-related documents.
However, Judicial Watch was granted an “in camera, non-public” review of the various Clinton emails by U.S. District Court, District of Columbia Judge James E. Boasberg. Such a review would take place no later than Jan. 31.
In their argument, Judicial Watch pinpointed Clinton’s own acknowledgment of a private email server as “a mistake.”
“The U.S. federal government has produced two State Department Inspector General reports and a report following an FBI investigation, which collectively support the conclusion that, at a minimum, the unofficial server arrangement was misconduct even if it was not a prosecutable violation of criminal law or one that will necessarily result in civil liability…”
“It is significant that federal court will review these Clinton email documents for evidence of government misconduct,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said. “This important court victory shows that we are now only in the middle of the Clinton email scandal.”
