A New York City hospital has seen two major incidents this summer, the second coming this week when a nurse conducting her rounds discovered a man raping a female patient hospitalized for brain trauma.

Doctors told police the severity of the patient’s injuries indicate she could never have consented to sexual intercourse. The assailant that was found raping the patient was Keith Nembhard, 37, who allegedly knew the 32-year-old woman.

This is the second serious incident at the Bronx-Lebanon Hospital this year. Back in June, an angry, former doctor killed one co-worker and injured six others when he opened fire in the middle of a hospital hallway. Dr. Henry Bello, 45, was a former family physician at the healthcare facility.

On Friday, June 30, at approximately 2:45 p.m., Bello entered the building hiding a high-powered assault rifle under his lab coat and ID badge before committing the shooting spree on the 16th and 17th floors. Police Commissioner James O’Neill revealed that the assailant also shot himself in the building.

The scene was chaotic as Bello attempted to set himself on fire before shooting himself, then staggered, bleeding, into a hallway, falling to the ground with the rifle at his side. The body of one female victim, believed to be a doctor, was found on the 17th floor. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Five others were seriously wounded in the shooting, and another victim suffered a less serious injury with a gunshot wound to the leg.
