A female school teacher pleaded guilty to charges of having sex with one of her students in Virginia Friday. The 31-year-old female admitted to two counts of sex with a child who was at least 15 years old.

Ashley Leigh Lewis Weber, a history teacher at Douglas S. Freeman in Henrico County, Virginia, turned herself in on Aug. 1, two months after police were tipped off about a relationship she was having with the 15-year-old boy student.

Initially, Weber was charged with a felony count of using a communications device to proposition a minor. That charge was withdrawn by prosecutors in exchange for a guilty plea on the misdemeanor counts. Each count carries a maximum sentence of a year, but prosecutors told the Richmond Times-Dispatch they expect Weber to serve just six months in prison.

According to prosecutor Stacey Davenport, Weber met the student during the 2015-16 school year. That summer, Weber took the boy to her parents’ home in Henrico, where they had sex. Davenport said the boy was 15 at the time of this first encounter.

Judge Margaret Deglau condemned Weber for her “victimization” of the child, and mandated she have no further contact with him in any capacity.

“This was a victimization,” Deglau said. “You are a person who could have made a great change in his life, positive change.”

Andy Jenks, a spokesman for Henrico Public Schools, said Weber no longer works in the school system but declined to comment further.

“We continue to see these stories sprout up day after day,” said Dennis Michael Lynch, CEO of DML News. “I’m amazed by how frequent the reports are coming in of a female teacher having sex with a teen student. When I was young, the stories were about college professors romancing their female students. But now, with the advent of social media, the stories of older women going after teenage boys sexually is off the charts. It’s one of the many downsides of the digital age. The contact between the student and teacher goes beyond the classroom. It’s bound to get worse.”
