Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid claimed that “no sane country” would reward illegal aliens with a pathway to citizenship and offer full access to public benefits in a 1993 speech on the Senate floor.

Posing a hypothetical supposition about illegal immigration policy in the United States, Reid asked, “If making it easy to be an illegal alien isn’t easy enough, how about offering a reward for being an illegal immigrant?”

“No sane country would do that, right?” He added, “Guess again.”

“If you break our laws by entering this country without permission and give birth to a child, we reward that child with citizenship, and guarantee a full access to all public and social services this country provides,” Reid said. “That’s a lot of services.”

Reid then asked, “Is it any wonder that two-thirds of the babies born at taxpayer expense at county-run hospitals in Los Angeles are born to illegal alien mothers?”
