FLASHBACK: McCain campaigned on repealing ObamaCare (videos)

Sen. John McCain ran his election in Arizona on repealing ObamaCare, but on Friday he announced his opposition to the latest Republican ObamaCare overhaul bill, which will likely thwart GOP leaders’ attempts to pass the health care reform legislation.

On “Fox & Friends Weekend,” Dan Bongino, former Secret Service agent-turned political pundit, said it’s shocking that the survival of ObamaCare appears to be more dependent on the reelection of McCain than the reelection of Obama.

“How many times is this guy going to rescue ObamaCare from the abyss?” Bongino wondered.

“John McCain sold us all out. And I’m still wondering why he claims to be a Republican senator, despite being the Democrats’ best friend right now,” Bongino noted.

Pointing to McCain’s contention that Republicans should not be content to pass health care legislation on a party-line basis (which was exactly how ObamaCare was passed), Bongino said that McCain is apparently looking for a reason to vote against the GOP bill.

“John McCain ran … on repealing ObamaCare. He’s rescued this thing twice,” Bongino said, wondering at what point the GOP should say, “You’re not a member of our party anymore.”

Trump slammed McCain at a rally in Alabama on Friday night, saying the Arizona senator’s opposition to the Cassidy-Graham bill is “terrible, honestly terrible.”

Senate leaders were hoping to bring the bill to the floor for a vote next week, with the expectation that it would be passed by the full Senate by the end of September, before a looming deadline.

If this last effort to repeal Obamacare does not pass, it could possibly doom any chance for Republicans to get rid of Obamacare during the Trump administration.

The Graham-Cassidy bill seeks to give control to the states, moving funds for Medicaid expansion, tax credits and cost-sharing reduction payments into block grants to the states.
