An Austin, Texas management company and some of its tenants knew that something was amiss at the location of Jade Massage Therapy but could not prove their suspicions until a clogged sewage drain provided evidence. Hundreds of condoms apparently flushed down the toilets at the massage parlor had destroyed an industrial waste disposal unit at the property that led to a city sewer.
A subsequent police investigation took place in which males being stopped and questioned after they exited the location and they admitted that they exchanged money (between $40 and $120, in addition to the $60 for a massage) for sexual favors from females employed at Jade Massage Therapy.
The husband and wife team of Joseph Emery, 54, and Juan Wang, 49, were arrested and charged with engaging in organized criminal activity and money laundering after Austin police conducted search warrants at their place of business and residence on March 22.
Wang was stopped on February 5 at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport after a preliminary screening revealed that she was carrying duct-taped bundles of cash in her carry-on bag in the amount of $30,000. Her explanation was that she was en route to China for a medical procedure. Records showed that Wang claimed to earn only $20,000 a year from Jade Massage Therapy. She was subsequently allowed to board the plane with her money.
