Howard Dean is postulating that President Donald J. Trump’s son-in-law–and White House adviser–Jared Kushner will be indicted. Dean, a Former Democratic National Committee (DNC) chairman, said, “We believe we may well have a criminal in the White House,” referring to the president.
Speaking to MSNBC on Sunday, Dean, who once disgraced himself by suggesting that Donald Trump’s sniffling during a 2016 debate stemmed from cocaine use (see tweet below), is now commenting on special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into unsubstantiated allegations of collusion between Moscow and the Trump campaign.
Dean said it appears Mueller is investigating whether President Trump “engaged with a foreign power in order to get where he got.”
“That’s a very serious matter for this country,” Dean said.
He believes Mueller is working from the bottom up, and that he’s pecking away at Trump campaign associates to get help in bringing charges against persons farther up the chain. Dean says he feels that eventually “either the Flynns are going to plead guilty or they’re going to … cooperate for some leniency.”
According to some sources, federal investigators may be preparing to bring charges against President Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, and his son, in connection with Mueller’s probe. Flynn was one of the first Trump associates to be investigated by Mueller. Reportedly, Mueller is applying pressure on Flynn, as well as speaking to witnesses to gain more information surrounding Flynn’s lobbying work.
“The next step is going to be the Trump family itself,” Dean said. “I expect there’s a good likelihood Jared Kushner will be indicted for money laundering.”
Dean continued, “And then we’re going to have to see how far the Russian involvement goes. This is serious business. These people are undermining our democracy.”
Mueller’s investigation also unearthed questions about former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, who has been charged with multiple counts, including conspiracy against the United States, tax fraud, and money laundering. The indictment, which includes 12 counts between Manafort and his former business partner and protégé Richard Gates, is the first to come from Mueller’s investigation.
Manafort maintains that the activity that he is being investigated for occurred long before the 2016 election, and is unrelated to Russia.
“Of note, his work on behalf of the Ukrainian clients ended around two years before Mr. Manafort agreed to work as the campaign manager for then-candidate Donald Trump,” his defense attorneys wrote in a bail package, currently under consideration by the courts.
