Former President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran has been known for sending budding letters to newly elected U.S. presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, in the past.

Recently, Ahmadinejad sent a 3,500-word letter to President Trump. In the letter, he addressed Trump’s presidential win and “truthfully described the U.S. political system and electoral structure as corrupt.”

Despite Ahmadinejad’s slightest praise given to the president in the letter, the former Iranian leader wrote that he is in favor of immigration to the U.S., stating that “the contemporary U.S. belongs to all nations.”

“In other words, the contemporary U.S. belongs to all nations, including the natives of the land,” he wrote. “No one may consider themselves the owner and view others as guests or immigrants.”

Ahmadinejad added further detail that can be interpreted as criticism, such as a written statement claiming U.S. interference has brought “insecurity, war, division, killing and (the) displacement of nations.” He further wrote, in reference to 1 million people of Iranian origin residing in America, that U.S. policies should “value respect toward the diversity of nations and races.”

One of the former Iranian leader’s final statements in the letter mentions how quickly time flies. “Four years is a long period, but it ends quickly. … The opportunity needs to be valued, and all its moments need to be used in the best way.”

Ahmadinejad was seen as a polarizing figure in Iran, and his popularity was often questioned. The current leader is President Hassan Rouhani, who struck the nuclear power deal with the Obama administration.
