Former Pres. Bush issues statement on wife Barbara’s passing

Former President George H.W. Bush issued a statement Wednesday afternoon on the passing of his wife, former first lady Barbara Bush, who died Tuesday.

Mrs Bush died Tuesday at her home in Houston, Texas. She was 92. The couple celebrated their 73 wedding anniversary in January, making them the longest married presidential couple in U.S. history.

The following statement was released on Twitter by Jim McGrath, spokesman for Mr. Bush.

“I always knew Barbara was the most beloved woman in the world, and in fact I used to tease her that I had a complex about that fact. But the truth is the outpouring of love and friendship being directed at The Enforcer is lifting us all up. We have faith that she is in heaven, and we know life will go on – as she would have it. So cross the Bushes off your worry list.”
