Fox News Channel (FNC) has announced the addition of millennial conservative Tomi Lahren to its sluggish news network in hopes that her presence will help it compete against other news outlets which are suddenly knocking Fox on its heels.
Lahren will explain more about her new role as a contributor tonight on “Hannity” which airs at 10:00 p.m. EST.
Lahren posted the announcement on her Facebook page:
“I am blessed and honored to join the Fox News team. This exciting new step will allow me to give voice to all the America-loving patriots who have had my back since day one. I will remain a solid and passionate advocate for you. Thank you for following me on my journey. I assure you, I will always stand up and speak out for our brave service members, our law enforcement community, our veterans and hardworking Americans from coast to coast. The Fox News digital future is bright and I can’t wait to take it to new heights! There is so much more to come and I am blessed to partner with Fox News on this next adventure. I’ll see you on “Hannity” tonight at 10pmET with more! It’s a good day. #TeamTomi“
CEO of DML NEWS, Dennis Michael Lynch, who used to be a regular on Fox News and also served as the host of Dennis Michael Lynch: UNFILTERED on NewsmaxTV, speculated months ago, using his inside knowledge of network news, that the millennial conservative was being tested by Fox to see how its older audience responded to her appearances before hiring her.
Today, he commented on her new role, by saying, “A contributor is paid to appear, but it doesn’t mean it will lead to a show. However, she pointed out ‘Fox digital’ in her statement, so I assume they will use her more online than on broadcast. Either way, I think Fox realizes it’s in trouble long term. Aside from being riddled with scandals, some of which have yet to surface but are soon coming based on what I’ve been told, including one confirmed story of an anchor spending time in a X-rated bar, ratings are not what they once were. The Fox audience is getting older, and the network no longer knows who they are as an organization. Some days they shower love onto Trump, other days they hate on him. Meanwhile, the other networks are heads and shoulders above Fox online. Fact is, on digital platforms Fox is getting crushed by CNN at a ratio of 3:1, and on cable MSNBC is beating them in many demos. Grabbing Tomi is their effort to be young again, it’s a step in a more modern direction for sure, but then again, she didn’t do much for Beck’s network.”
DML also pointed out that just 25 years young, Lahren has a lot of potential for growth. She boasts over 800,000 followers on Twitter. Her videos posted to Facebook and YouTube go instantly viral.
She served as the host of “Tomi” on Glenn Beck’s The Blaze, but as DML noted, it didn’t help Beck at all. Beck, who once hosted a show on Fox News, said he wished he had never hired Lahren, and the network has struggled to find a national audience. “Cable distributors have no interest in The Blaze,” said DML. “Even with Tomi, Beck couldn’t get traction. It’s a dying company that nobody wants to work for.”
Lahren’s relationship with Beck took a downward turn when, as a guest on “The View” in April, she expressed views on abortion which Beck took issue with.
In the interview, Lahren expressed her opinions on owning guns and abortion: “You know what? I’m for limited government, so stay out of my guns, and you can stay out of my body as well.” This statement surprised the ladies and they applauded; they liked what they had just heard.
As a result, Lahren and Beck began fighting online for the public to witness. The feud culminated in her being fired, Beck stripping Tomi’s access from the Facebook page he helped create for her, and her suing him in return. The lawsuit was dropped and Lahren was given back her Facebook page.
Lahren got her start working at One America News Network.
