Fox News CEO Roger Ailes Steps Aside

According to a press release from 21st Century Fox Thursday afternoon, top executive Roger Ailes has resigned effective immediately.

Ailes was the Chairman and CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network, and Chairman of Fox Television Stations.  He will stay on in an advisory role, as Chairman and acting CEO of Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network.

Two weeks ago former Fox anchor Gretchen Carlson filed a sexual harassment suit against Ailes, and up to 20 other women came forward with sexual harassment claims as well, including Megyn Kelly.

In the company statement, Robert Murdoch, Executive Chairman, said, “I am personally committed to ensuring that Fox News remains a distinctive, powerful voice.  Our nation needs a robust Fox News to resonate from every corner of the country.”

“To ensure continuity of all that is best about Fox News and what it stands for, I will take over as Chairman and acting CEO, with the support of our existing management team under Bill Shine, Jay Wallace and Mark Kranz.”
