FOX NEWS Wallace & Smith go after Trump Jr’s honesty (video)

Fox News hosts Chris Wallace and Shepard Smith reacted to breaking news that there was an eighth person in the room during Don Trump Jr.’s meeting with the Russian lawyer with shock and disappointment.

Smith mocked Don Jr.’s comments by saying “If there’s nothing there and that’s what they tell us — they tell us there’s nothing to this and nothing came of it — it’s a nothing burger — it wasn’t memorable — I didn’t tell you about it because it wasn’t anything — so I didn’t even remember it with a Russian interpreter in the room at Trump Tower.”  He then asked, “If all of that, why all of these lies? Why is it lie after lie after lie?”

“The deception, Chris, is mind-boggling,” he continued. “There’s still people out there that believe we’re making it up. One day they’re going to realize we’re not. Look around and go: where are we? Why are we getting told all these lies?”

Russian-American lobbyist Rinat Akhmetshin is now being labeled a “former Soviet spy” by news outlets — it’s a characterization that the man flatly denies. He has admitted that he also attended the meeting in Trump Tower, along with Don Jr., then-campaign chair Paul Manafort, top adviser Jared Kushner, and Russian attorney Natalia Veselnitskaya.

Fox News is usually pro- Trump, but Smith and Wallace have been critical of him time and again.

The inconsistencies and revisions in Trump Jr’s recollection of a meeting that took place just over a year ago has outraged Smith, who vented his anger in a long rant.

Here’s some of the text of Smith’s comments. Watch the video of the exchange below:

“We’re still not clean on this, Chris,” Smith told Wallace, who agreed.

“My grandmother used to say when first we practice to — Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive. The deception, Chris, is mind-boggling.”
