Fox News wins highest cable news ratings of the month


For the 185th consecutive month, Fox News was the most-watched cable news network. In the month of May, Fox News won the ratings race against close second, MSNBC, according to Nielsen research.

The coveted demographic is 25- to 54-year-old’s. Between Monday, May 22, and Sunday, May 28, Fox averaged of 453,000 people in that category, while MSNBC captured 417,000 viewers and CNN rolled into third place with 399,000.

MSNBC did manage to eke out a victory in weekday viewers, averaging 532,000 viewers a night while Fox averaged 524,000 viewers. CNN claimed another third place spot with 455,000 viewers.

Rachel Maddow, MSNBC’s left leaning host who loves to bash President Trump, had the most-watched program among 25- to 54-year-old’s, averaging 637,000 adults every night.  However, Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson won in overall viewers, averaging 2.7 million viewers per night.

All the cable news networks have enjoyed heightened interest in politics since the 2016 presidential race. That interest has not abated amid controversies and accusations during President Trump’s first few months in office.
