Gingrich: “End special counsel”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich pointed out on a Sunday talk show that former FBI Director James Comey is extremely biased when it comes to President Trump and called for Congress to dismiss the special counsel entirely.

“It’s very clear that Comey hates Trump,” Gingrich told radio host John Catsimatidis. “Comey is clearly extraordinarily hostile to Trump.”

Gingrich further noted, “I think Congress should now intervene and they should abolish the independent counsel, because Comey makes so clear that it’s the poison fruit of a deliberate manipulation by the FBI director leaking to the New York Times, deliberately set up this particular situation. It’s very sick.”

Gingrich’s comments come after hearing Comey’s testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Thursday, in which he revealed that he had used a third party to leak an unclassified memo of a conversation between him and President Trump with a reporter.

In the memo, Comey penned the details of a February meeting with President Trump in which he claims that Trump allegedly pressured Comey to drop the FBI’s investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn. Comey admitted in front of the committee that he leaked the memo, because it was his intent to persuade the Justice Department to appoint a special counsel to lead the Russia investigation.

The New York Times promptly published an article about the leaked memo, and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed former FBI Director Robert Mueller as special counsel in the investigation — just as Comey had hoped.

According to the President’s personal attorney Marc Kasowitz, Comey has leaked “privileged” communications with the president. He has made it clear that an investigation needs to be launched.
