Gingrich: Trump To Destroy Obama’s Legacy In First Days Of Presidency

Former House speaker Newt Gingrich stated Sunday that President-elect Donald Trump will destroy President Obama’s legacy by immediately repealing up to 70 percent of his executive orders.

“I think in the opening couple days, he’s going to repeal 60 to 70 percent of Obama’s legacy by simply vetoing out all of the various executive orders that Obama used because he couldn’t get anything through Congress,” Gingrich said in an interview on Fox Business’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Obama has signed 260 executive orders since he stepped into office, and has said that if Trump wants to sign new orders and reverse Obama’s, it is “entirely within his lawful power” to do so and is “part of the Democratic process.”

Gingrich believes that Obama knows his legacy will disappear quickly as Trump signs it away.

“I think President Obama is beginning to figure out that his legacy is like one of those dolls that as the air comes out of it, it shrinks and shrinks and shrinks,” Gingrich said.

Trump is expected to live up to the promise he made at a September rally in North Carolina when he told voters that his administration would “eliminate every unconstitutional executive order and restore the rule of law to our land.”
