The man responsible for the mass shooting in Mississippi reported earlier on Sunday has been identified as Willie Cory Godbolt, aged 35.   A video of Godbolt sitting on the ground after being arrested is going viral on social media.

Reportedly, an argument with his wife over their children lead Godbolt to shoot and kill two young boys and five adults at three different residences in the area.

After being captured around 7 a.m. on Sunday morning, Godbolt sat handcuffed on the ground and made statements to a local reporter from Clarion-Ledger. He said his actions stemmed from his love for his wife and children.

In a chilling recollection, Godbolt tells the reporter, “I was having a conversation with her stepdaddy and her mama and her, my wife, about me taking my children home. Somebody called the officer, people that didn’t even live at the house. That’s what they do. They intervene. They cost him his life. I’m sorry.”

Among the adults killed was Deputy William Durr, 36, shot around 11:30 p.m. at the site of the first of three shooting incidents.

Godbolt went on to say that he didn’t plan on being captured alive. “My intentions was  to have God kill me,” Godbolt said. “I ran out of bullets.” He continued, “Suicide by cop was my intention. I ain’t fit to live not after what I’ve done, not in your eyes, not in nobody else’s eyes. But God, you know, he forgives you for everything.” The reporter can be heard asking Godbot what will happen next. “Death,” was his unsettling answer.

Godbolt was taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for a gunshot wound to the arm. Authorities say charges have not yet been filed against Godbolt as investigators are still collecting evidence.  The identities of the civilians killed have not been released.

In a video taken of his arrest, Godbolt says he just wanted to “live and let live” and that “they” wouldn’t let him.
