After learning from an Associated Press report that anti-GOP shooter James Hodgkinson of Belleville, Ill. was in email contact with the two Democratic senators from his home state, the Daily Caller decided to reach out to Illinois Sens. Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth.

An FBI investigation has revealed that in April, Hodgkinson visited tourist sites in Washington, such as monuments, museums, the U.S. Capitol and the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

He also paid a visit to “the office of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, whose campaign he had worked on as a volunteer, and was in email contact with the two Democratic senators from his home state.”

Efforts to reach Senator Durbin were met with no more information than the following response: “Mr. Hodgkinson contacted our office to state his opinion on a variety of legislation over the years. Those emails were all given to USCP and are part of the current investigation.”

Hodgkinson stalked a group of GOP Congressman practicing at a baseball field, shooting Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise in the leg and injuring others. His social media posts reveal that the killer thought Trump was a “traitor.” According to the FBI, Hodgkinson “acted alone.”
