Right on the heels of the politically-motivated shooting in which Bernie Sanders supporter James T. Hodgkinson targeted Republicans as they practiced for their Congressional baseball game, Georgia Republican Karen Handel’s neighborhood has had to be cordoned off after reports that letters containing a white powdery substance and calling Handel a “dirty fascist” were left at homes of her neighbors.

Handel is the Republican candidate in the Georgia House special election, in which she will face-off against Democrat John Ossoff on June 20 to represent Georgia’s 6th District.

Roswell police are reportedly searching Handels’ neighbors’ mailboxes for the suspicious packages.

One resident posted a picture of the contents of the envelope, telling the Washington Free Beacon that several letters were distributed containing white powder.

Posted below, the threatening letter contains graphic language.

“Your neighbor Karen Handel is a dirty fascist cunt but I’m sure you already knew that,” the letter says, according to a picture. “Take a whiff of the powder and join her in the hospital you Bourgeoisie motherfuckers.”

Police say at least five homes in the neighborhood received the threatening envelopes, and the FBI has been called in to investigate the matter.

“We take all these threats seriously. We’ve been having a lot of issues with political signs over the past months. This has just been a situation over the campaign on both sides. We do not know the nature of the substance right now,” said Lisa Holland with the Roswell Police Department.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Handel wrote, “This afternoon we had some suspicious packages delivered to our house and to our neighbors. The packages contained threatening letters and a suspicious substance. The police were quickly notified and street is now being blocked off. We will continue to coordinate with law enforcement as necessary.”

Twitter users reacting to the news from a Buzzfeed reporter questioned the validity of the threat, suggesting that Handel did it herself.

In a related incident, the FBI told Fox News that the FOX 5 Atlanta affiliate in Atlanta, Ga., had received a package with a white powdery substance inside a clear plastic envelope. The package also contained a letter with anti-Donald Trump and anti-Karen Handel sentiments.

It’s also being reported that members of Congress have been receiving threatening emails and calls since Wednesday’s shooting during a Republican baseball practice. Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY), for example, received an e-mail that said, “one down, 216 to go.”
