The Republican National Committee (RNC) continued to outpace the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in fundraising totals for the month of August, raising nearly $3 million more in one month. The RNC’s haul for August was $7.3 million, while the DNC raised $4.4 million.

In July, the gap was larger, with the DNC raising over $6 million less than the RNC. The Democrats’ haul was their worst in a decade, raising just $3.8 million to the Republicans’ $10.2 million.

Both the RNC and the DNC spent more than they raised, however. The DNC overspent new donations by $45,000 in the month of August. The RNC spent nearly $1.3 million more than it raised in August, yet they have more cash on hand than the Democrats, with the RNC’s coffers sitting at $45.8 million compared to the DNC’s $6.8 million.

In addition, the RNC has zero debt, and the DNC now owes slightly above $4 million.

Since January of this year, to August, the RNC has raised $47 million more than the DNC. The RNC has raised $93.3 million in the first six months of 2017, and the DNC has raised just $46.3 million.

Earlier this week, the committee’s finance chairman, Steve Wynn, made a statement regarding the numbers.

“As the Finance Chairman of the Republican Party, I am convinced this unprecedented amount of support in a non-presidential year reflects one thing and one thing only,” Wynn said. “Citizens in every state have donated to the Republican Party because they want even more of the economic and political leadership offered by our Party and the Trump Administration.”

“The Republican Party continues to thrive because of steady support from the American people,” said RNC Chairwoman McDaniel. “We are thankful for individuals across the country who have expressed confidence in us to support President Trump and defend Republican majorities in Congress.”

In March, the DNC elected Tom Perez as its new chairman and Congressman Keith Ellison as deputy chairman. According to reports, Democratic Party leaders are “trying to strike the right balance between connecting with new voters and building on activist anger toward President Donald Trump.”
